1.In what ways do you think Main Street Launch brings value to our communities?
A lot of people don’t or can’t work a traditional 9-to-5 job, so entrepreneurship is a great alternative to help folks make a living. We support the notion of entrepreneurship, and that means we’re providing opportunity in neighborhoods where traditional funders are not. Because we work with all different industries, we’re also empowering people from all walks of life while they pursue their dreams.
2. In what ways do you work with our clients?
As Office Manager I work with a lot of potential clients. I’m the first face or voice they experience at Main Street Launch. I try to help prospective clients understand about our programs and services and decide for themselves if we’re a good fit for what they need. After I answer their questions, I connect the business owners with our Relationship Managers so they can get started on their loan application.
I’m about to start a new role at Main Street Launch in Loan Servicing. In that role, I’ll be working with our active borrowers who are paying back their loans. I’ll produce and send their statements, process payments, and work on loan modifications as necessary.
3. What inspires you about our work?
When people come in with unique businesses and we fund them – that’s amazing. The Port Bar is one of the only gay bars in Oakland, and we funded them. Kenny’s Heart and Soul is the only soul food truck in the Bay Area, and we funded them. Our clients are pioneers, and it’s exciting to support such creative endeavors.
4. What do you enjoy most about working at Main Street Launch?
I love interacting with all the people. As the oldest of 12 siblings, the people are the fun part for me. Our clients, our staff, our board – the camaraderie we have in our community is fun.
5. Anything else you want people to know?
I’m excited to be pursuing my MBA!
