Noble Brewer

Oakland, CA

The idea for Noble Brewer began in September 2013 after Claude Burns and a Navy buddy discussed creating a homebrewing competition.  The winner of the competition would have their beer produced professionally and all the entrants would receive a case of the winning beer.  The idea sparked an interest in the beer industry and how to enhance the relationship between the makers and craft beer fans.  Now, Noble Brewer is the world’s first online beer club to feature homebrewers.

Their first shipment was sent in March 2015, providing subscribers with the opportunity to try selected homebrews and learn the brewers’ stories.  For Noble Brewer, it’s more than just craft beer but creating a unique experience by sharing the story of the homebrewers with friends and family.

OBDC is inspired by incredible veteran-owned businesses like Claude’s, and we’re thrilled that he believes that Noble Brewer’s OBDC loan helped him: “We launched the business on a good foundation partially because the loan from OBDC allowed us to plan for the future.”  Even with all the paperwork, Claude felt supported by Vice President – Veterans Program, Noah Harris: “Noah is very helpful and knowledgeable, making the process much easier to understand and complete.”

In addition to buying the first shipment of beer, Claude used his OBDC loan for working capital and to pay salaries.  Noble Brewer now has three full-time employees, as well as many part-time and contract workers that support the business.
