Retreat Skin and Hair Studio provides a safe space for all clients to rejuvenate as they receive high quality skin, beauty, and hair care in a beautiful, relaxed environment. The treatment and product menus are mindfully curated to take into account the stress and expense of modern city living. Retreat is a collaboration between two San Francisco beauty industry veterans, Michelle Rothman and Kimberly Padgett. Together, they aim to cultivate strong collaborative relationships between client and practitioner, tailoring their services to each client’s unique circumstances in order to exceed their needs and expectations.
After working together for four years at a different salon and becoming friends, they started thinking about creating their own business together. Retreat was founded in August 2017 when they purchased a previously existing salon and rebranded it according to their new vision. “We were both ready to go out on our own and try something different. We were drawn to the fresh possibility of creating something new. I wanted to work for myself, to be my own boss,” recalled Michelle. “Working with Michelle re-ignited my passion for aesthetics,” said Kimberly. “We are both very dedicated to making people feel good in their bodies,” they said.
Retreat’s services heal, balance, and beautify the whole body, providing something special for the face, eyes, body, head, and heart. Michelle and Kimberly specialize in comprehensive skin care, combining the best of modern science with nature. For the face, they use a variety of techniques such as microdermabrasion, ultrasonic, fruit, green and chemical peels, high frequency, and LED light treatments. Eye opening treatments include eyelash lifts, tints. The body is taken care of through gentle, full-body waxing as well as corrective skin treatments for problematic areas. The head is in the expert hands of seasoned stylists who offer full-service hair care including, color, cutting, highlights, balyage, extensions, styling and blowouts for special occasions, to name a few. For the heart, Retreat offers healing with Reiki energy work.
Michelle and Kimberly are mindful of giving back to the community they live and work in. Retreat hosts periodic event, talks and parties to highlight, promote and educate clients about other small Bay Area businesses and makers whose goods and services are rooted in self-care and wellness. Retreat also hosts art openings a few times a year, featuring local fine artists. They take no commission from the artists on any sold work. This allows Retreat to rotate the visual art in their space while a providing free and non – traditional environment for artists to show and sell their work.
