This post was originally posted on our blog on November 23, 2016. We hope you’ll join us in #shoppingsmall this holiday season, too!
This holiday season, we’re thrilled to be celebrating with our loved ones, and we hope you are too. While you think about your holiday shopping, consider #shoppingsmall to support your neighbors and communities.
Click here to see our small business clients that operate in your neighborhood (it’s a map!). You don’t need to shop small for all of our gifts, but supporting entrepreneurs has a huge impact for that business, for their employees, and for our local tax revenues.
If you love the hustle and bustle of Black Friday, consider participating in Plaid Friday. In Oakland, many small businesses offer great specials, and parking is free for the shopping season.
If you shop on Black Friday, you can still support small businesses on Small Business Saturday. Click here for a map of participating small businesses in your neighborhood.
Some of our favorite gift ideas are:
- Restaurant gift certificates: perfect for the folks you know who don’t have space for more stuff and who enjoy their community.
- Yoga classes: a gift you can give and/or enjoy with your loved one!
- Books from a local bookstore: include their business card so the gift-receiver can pay it forward.
- Haircuts, barber visits, or spa days: we all enjoy and/or need a haircut sometime.
